Monday 3:00AM.
Wide awake. Staring at my computer screen. Email deadline is 9:00AM. Only six more sleepless hours to come up with a clever weekly sales ad! Why did I wait till the last minute to come up with something? Why didn’t I get this done before now? Did I really need to blow off the whole weekend making beautiful jewelry? Why couldn’t I have let that #E909 Earring Project wait just a few days longer? Why did I have to watch the new Odd Count Peyote Stitch DIY Video instead of working on this ad? Why do I spend so much of my precious personal time making beautiful jewelry when I should be writing about the WEEKLY SALES and NEW ITEMS. Why, oh why?
Oh wait! I know. Because it’s FUN!

Project Theodore

The Victoria’s Secret Shop on Lexington Ave and 58th Street has some of the Angels’ runway outfits.
Some are displayed in the very front of the store in a romantic setting complete with a chair, draped with lace and roses. Others are scattered throughout the store. Make sure to go up to the second floor and see up close the Roman Goddess and Warrior Princess inspired ones. I loved the book filled with inspiration photos, pieces of lace and flowers just collaged to show where all the ideas come from.

Henry Bendel Open See

storefront.png

Henry Bendel is about to have their next open call for designers.
It will be on March 30, 2009 from 9am-12pm. That means that you need to be online before 12pm in order to be seen. You can expect people to line up from much much earlier. I have heard stories of people lining up from the night before to make sure that they are in the beginning of the line. The HB buyers are not interested in menswear or shoes. Almost everything else from skin care to handbags and women’s wear is good. For more info call the hotline: 212-904-7992 since there is no real info on their website.
In my personal experience I have two different friends who made it through the rounds of approval and both of them had already a well developed line of jewelry and clothing accordingly, and had plenty of press behind them. At the end of the day neither one of them made a fortune from being in the store, but both had a good experience and continued with their lines successfully! So it was a nice addition to everything else they did. You could tell your established clientele that you are in Bendel’s and add it to your portfolio.

So if you have a well developed and branded line get ready for a sleepless night on the 29th and pray for no rain to mess up your gorgeous hair!

New Album from Tosca

I’ve always liked Tosca. I listen to their music while working and find them both exhilarating and exotic in their sound, a nice background for design thoughts.
Their new album from “No Hassle” is comining in April!
What a treat!
Here is a sneak preview of their track “My First” on You Tube.
It has the cool look of comic book layout and the familiar chilled sound of the Tosca!

I discovered this great jewelry supplier hidden in the midst of the diamond district in NYC. It’s a bit of a struggle to walk on 47th street because of all the hagglers trying to get you to enter their store or sell gold, but once you get to your destination it’s all worth the struggle.
The store is hidden in the very end of a gallery of other vendors, but at least the actual address number is large and well visible on the outside of the building. Here is the actual address:

They offer a truly great variety of supplies for beading, pearceing, stringing, enameling, posting mounting, screwing, etc., including gold plated findings. The best part is that you can download a PDF version of their catalog online before you even get there, or you can request one over the mail.
